Review of Some Danger Involved

In Some Danger Involved by Will Thomas, Cyrus Barker is looking for a new apprentice. Thomas Llewelyn is desperate and looking for a job. To both men’s amazement, Llewelyn passes Barker’s unconventional interview. Soon after, they are tasked with finding who has murdered a young scholar. To accomplish this, Llewelyn follows his employer to the seedier part of Victorian London in search of evidence. Will they find the killer before there’s another victim? Or will Llewelyn become a victim himself?

Some Danger Involved is an intriguing beginning to an appealing series. It feels like a cross between a Sherlock Holmes mystery and a Nero Wolfe novel. I was interested on page one because the lead characters were interesting and the plot captivating. The setting has an atmospheric pull to it that doesn’t let go. The only aspect of the novel that I didn’t particularly like is the climax because of the grittiness that is portrayed. It didn’t seem to match the tone of most of the novel. However, Will Thomas has a penchant for storytelling, and I look forward to the next installment of the series. Some Danger Involved is an interesting and intelligent Victorian mystery that others may find enjoyable as well.
